About SpringBoard Cincinnati
SpringBoard, founded in June 2011 by ArtWorks, is a business planning and development program for artists, artisans and creative entrepreneurs that targets sustainability in small business. SpringBoard offers entrepreneurs a variety of resources to achieve their artistic and economic goals by creating a unique and collaborative learning environment.
Through a nine-week course convening three hours each week, creatives will build a comprehensive business plan and learn valuable marketing and financing management skills. Access to resources and an opportunity to develop relationships with other entrepreneurs and community partners will set these small businesses up for success.
SpringBoard will initially focus its impact on commercial corridors in Over-the-Rhine, downtown, and Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky neighborhoods eager to connect interested graduates with potential storefronts and work spaces.

“SpringBoard is a natural extension of Artworks’ programming, with a view towards providing innovative opportunities for creative minds and adding vibrancy to the landscape” says Tamara Harkavy, ArtWorks Director. “This program will spark more creative enterprise in Over-the-Rhine and beyond, ultimately creating economic development opportunities, adding to the renaissance of our city.”
The SpringBoard curriculum is licensed from Mountain Bizworks of Asheville, North Carolina. A Chattanooga non-profit, Create Here, has taken this curriculum and made it even more relevant to the creative entrepreneur. The guidance and best practices from Create Here has set the Cincinnati program up for success.
SpringBoard is made possible through the support of the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation and ArtPlace, a new collaboration of top national foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts and various federal agencies to accelerate creative placemaking across the U.S.
